Description
Why we chose this
This formula sits at the intersection of two different ingredient categories: magnesium — an essential mineral for the nervous system and reduction of tiredness — and a carefully selected group of botanicals and amino acids with a long history of traditional use for calm and nervous system support. Biocare has combined them in a single, clean, two-capsule daily formula. The magnesium is provided as bisglycinate, the form most well-tolerated by the digestive system. The botanical extracts are high-ratio concentrates: the lemon balm is a 5:1 extract and the holy basil a 10:1 extract, meaning each capsule delivers a significantly more concentrated dose than dried herb alone. No unnecessary additives. Fully vegan.
Who is this formula for?
- Adults looking for a magnesium supplement with EFSA-approved claims for nervous system function and reduction of tiredness, combined with traditional botanical ingredients in one formula.
- People who want a clean, minimal-additive capsule that avoids pharmaceutical sedatives or synthetic calming agents.
- Those who prefer magnesium in bisglycinate form — the form best tolerated by the digestive system and least likely to cause the gastrointestinal side effects of inorganic magnesium.
Frequently asked questions
Why is magnesium bisglycinate a better form of magnesium than magnesium oxide? Magnesium oxide has a very low absorption rate — studies suggest as little as 4% is absorbed. It is also the form most associated with the laxative effect that gives magnesium a reputation for causing digestive discomfort. Magnesium bisglycinate is a chelated form bound to two glycine molecules. It is absorbed through a different intestinal pathway, has a substantially higher absorption rate, and is significantly gentler on the digestive system. For a daily supplement taken consistently, the chelated form is a more practical choice.
What is the difference between lemon balm and holy basil? Lemon balm (Melissa officinalis) is a European herb in the mint family with a long history of use in Western herbal medicine. Holy basil (Ocimum tenuiflorum, also called Tulsi) is a plant central to Ayurvedic tradition in South Asia. Both are included here as traditional botanicals in concentrated extract form.
What does the extract ratio mean for lemon balm and holy basil? The lemon balm in this formula is a 5:1 extract — meaning 5 parts of dried lemon balm leaf and stem were used to produce 1 part of the extract. The 600 mg of lemon balm extract in a daily dose therefore represents 3000 mg of dried herb equivalent. The holy basil is a 10:1 extract — the 50 mg of extract represents 500 mg of dried herb equivalent. Concentrated extracts provide a more standardised and potent dose than raw dried herb.
Is L-theanine the same as caffeine? No. L-theanine and caffeine are both found in tea leaves but are chemically and functionally distinct. Caffeine is a stimulant. L-theanine is a non-protein amino acid. This formula contains L-theanine as an extract from Camellia sinensis at 100 mg per daily dose. The extraction process removes caffeine — L-theanine supplements are not a source of caffeine. Always check the product label if you are caffeine-sensitive.
Can I take this alongside other magnesium supplements? If you are already taking a separate magnesium supplement or a multivitamin containing magnesium, check your combined daily intake. This formula provides 100 mg per daily serving.
How long does one bottle last? At the recommended dose of 2 capsules per day, one 60-capsule bottle provides 30 days' supply — one month.
